Jangolo Academy: training African youth in digital transformation
What if Africa’s path to food self-sufficiency ran through digital technology? That is the bet behind Jangolo Academy, the training program launched by Jangolo to equip African youth with the digital skills that agribusiness and the local economy need. The goal: to train a genuine “army of digital experts” to serve the continent’s development.
A mission: digital skills for African agriculture
Jangolo’s conviction is simple: Africa can reach food self-sufficiency, and digital transformation is one of the most powerful levers to get there. To improve the performance of stakeholders across local agricultural value chains, the continent needs a large number of young people trained in digital tools and trades. Jangolo Academy answers that need — a platform where technology is put to work solving local problems.
The concept at a glance
The program pursues three clear ambitions: train 500 young Africans every year in digital transformation topics, build a pool of experts able to make local companies more competitive, and grow a generation of young people who understand the opportunities in agribusiness. Ultimately, it is about making digital knowledge accessible to the masses and giving youth the means to contribute to their community’s development.
A free, intensive and practical training
Why free?
The training is offered for free to give a chance to people with limited access to education. In return, every participant commits to passing on their training to two other people — a multiplier principle that scales the impact. Jangolo and its sponsors cover the minimum needed to run the program.
Why two months?
The program lasts two months, deliberately short to stay intense, keep participants focused, and maximize the benefit of the training.
What makes the program unique
Jangolo Academy is more practical than theoretical: learners practice in a real-life business context, can follow the training remotely, and earn a Jangolo Certification upon completion.
For students: who can apply?
The program targets young students, unemployed men and women, and employed young people looking for additional skills. Eligibility requirements are: being between 18 and 25 years old, owning a laptop, having internet access, and showing high motivation, availability and discipline.
Available trainings
Learners build highly sought-after digital skills: web development; content creation (with Canva, with CapCut, creating for a target, for a medium, and with AI); and digital marketing (customer journey, SEO). The reward: hands-on experience in a working environment and even the opportunity to start your own business.
For local companies
Companies have much to gain by partnering with Jangolo Academy: making their brand known to the youth, sourcing their digital team from a pool of already-trained specialists, and onboarding genuine digital brand ambassadors.
For institutions and sponsors
Institutions and sponsors that back the program join a major digital-transformation ecosystem, reach their youth-development goals efficiently, and make their funding count by contributing directly to the fight against hunger.
